MP3 to text converter — free and private
Upload an MP3 and get an editable transcript with timestamps. It runs on your device with Whisper, so the file stays with you.
Speaker labels (optional). Rename speakers, then choose a speaker on the line where they start talking. Following lines change with it until you pick another speaker.
Transcribing MP3 files
MP3 is a compressed format, typically about 1 MB per minute at 128 kbps. Speech survives that compression well, so podcasts, interviews, lectures and recorded calls usually transcribe cleanly. Use the original file rather than a re-compressed copy, and pick the Base model when accuracy matters more than speed.
Long files take longer, since everything runs on your own computer. For recordings over an hour, split the file first. Need subtitles? Export SRT or VTT after transcribing.
Questions
Can I transcribe an MP3 without uploading it?
Yes. The file is decoded and transcribed inside your browser. Only the speech model is downloaded once and then cached.
Why is my MP3 slow to transcribe?
Speed depends on your device. The Tiny model is fastest and Base is more accurate but slower. Long recordings take proportionally longer.
